Travel is a funny thing: You always hear different opinions from different people. Before we even landed in South Africa, we heard stories about how beautiful Cape Town is. Then we heard some terrifying stories about how dangerous it is to stroll around Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth.
One thing I learned about travel is to not come to my own conclusion about a country by solely relying on news and media. Most of the time media do not do a good job portraying an accurate picture of a country. I used to prejudge a country by simply reading a single piece of information from the news, or by listening to opinion from people who have not been to the country – I learned that information from that source is oftentimes far from the truth; on the other hand, when I speak with locals or people who have actually been to those places, what I hear is oftentimes more accurate.
Now that I know a little more about Africa, I can share this info with others – Just like how others have shared with me.
Grabbed a bike from the hostel and biked along the bay in Sea Point, with Lion’s Head at the back.

We spent a day doing wine-tasting / winery-hopping in Constantia (wine not?), and met other backpackers on the way there. Med student from Canada and teacher from Florida.

View from a bathroom at Beau Constantia Wine Estate. BADdest bathroom ever.

Great white shark cage diving in Sandbaai. One of those situations where it is better to get locked up in a cage than to wander freely outside.

I don’t do much fine-dining, but we made a reservation six months ago for La Colombe, one of 50 Best Restaurants in the World. The food presentation was outstanding.
The portion was so small we ate ramen afterwards.

At the end of the day, they all taste like beef.

We backpackers love to explore but hate switching accommodations unnecessarily. These people helped us a bunch on getting around the city.
Mojo in Cape Town. They deserve 5 out of 5 on TripAdvisor.
