Starting tomorrow for the next 12 months, I will be taking a career break to backpack solo around the world. The journey will start in Greece and I will spend the next 4 months travelling in majority of the European countries. After Europe I will be heading to Egypt and the Middle East, then proceed to Russia for the Trans-Siberian journey to other Asian countries and Oceania. Finally I will be heading to Guatemala to travel overland through Central America, and the journey will conclude in Bolivia, South America.
6 months ago, I made the decision to travel around the world. I want to use this year as an opportunity to learn via experience, to connect with people, and to acquire new skills on the road; I am also exploring the possibility of potential business ventures.
What am I going to do with my job? I love what I do for a living and have been working for the same company for almost a decade. But I also realize that the opportunity to travel extensively will be closing in a few short years – I have decided that now is the time to take action and to make my dream reality.
I will be returning home every 3-4 months for a couple of weeks each to catch up with family and to take care of businesses. Other than that I will be living out of my backpack on the road for this coming year; I have an overall route in mind but have not yet decided how to go about doing it – Bottom line: Be spontaneous.
