After returning to the states for a few weeks now, I have caught up on most things that were previously put on hold during my travel. As the dust continues to settle, I am finding time to read again. The book that I’m currently reading (2nd book since I came back) is Adventure Capitalist by Jim Rogers.
Jim, an American hedge fund founder, traveled in his custom-built Mercedes with his fiancée to 116 countries for 3 years, setting the Guinness record for the longest continuous car journey. They started in Iceland, headed east across Europe into the Stans in Central Asia and China, drove across the entire Siberia in Russia headed back to Europe, got married in the UK, drove down the west coast of Africa, through some war zones, around the Horn, back up the east coast toward Egypt, across the Arabian Peninsula into India, through more war zones near Bangladesh, down to Southeast Asia and Oceania, across the Pacific Ocean to South, Central, and North America before finally wrapping up the journey back in the US – All these were done when Google Maps didn’t exist, 15 years ago.
People say, if you can handle traveling with your significant other for an extended period of time and survive all the arguments, the relationship will likely last for a long time – To this date, after 15 years, Jim and his wife Paige are still happily married. So I guess there is some truth to this; but because this book was written 15 years ago, it does contain certain facts that are no longer true, predictions that did not end up happening, and opinions that I don’t agree with. But as long as you are looking for perspectives, not consensus, this book is overall incredibly eye-opening and offers a lot of insights on economics, history, and politics from an entrepreneur’s perspective.
